This Pharmacy Practice Residency with an emphasis in psychiatry is a one year post graduate experiential program focused on pharmacotherapy and research. This program is offered through the State Office of Mental Health and the Department of Pharmacy Practice within the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Buffalo. The primary clinical practice site is the Buffalo Psychiatric center with secondary sites including, but not limited to the Erie County Medical Center, and ViaHealth Behavioral Network.
Clinical practice opportunities include child and adolescent, general adult, mentally ill chemically dependent, forensic and geriatric psychiatry. The program provides the flexibility to be individualized based upon candidate interests and career goals. Experience may be obtained in research and clinical studies, retrospective database analysis, psycho education research, protocol writing and potential grantsmanship.
Position includes an appointment in the Department of Pharmacy Practice as a clinical Instructor at the University at Buffalo. This will provide an opportunity to lecture in specific areas of pharmacotherapeutics and directly supervise Doctor of Pharmacy students during clinical rotations at the participating practice sites.
A research project will be required for completion of this program. Opportunities are provided to the candidate for auditing established classes at the University at Buffalo to enhance knowledge in specific areas of clinical pharmacology research, if desired.
Candidates are required to possess a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and have an interest in psychiatric pharmacy.
